In a sad case of life imitating The Onion, the FBI is committing extra resources to the War on Porn. Don't misunderstand. The War on Porn is not a sophisticated attempt to catch purveyors of child-porn or peddlers of snuff films. No, it's a modern day witch hunt through the halls of contemporary adult porn looking to root out any and all violations of old-fashioned obscenity laws.
Still, some agents are having a difficult time taking the war seriously and have circulated a series of sarcastic memos on the subject of Alberto Gonzales' directive.
"At the FBI's field office, spokeswoman Debra Weierman expressed disappointment that some colleagues find grist for humor in the new campaign. "The adult obscenity squad...stems from an attorney general mandate, funded by Congress" she said.
I'd like to take a moment to express my disappointment as well, disappointment that such a mandate even exists and, worse still,is being funded with public money.
