Justin Logan has somehow convinced himself that a nuclear Iran is a good thing. While he has not yet treated us to the arguments for this, he says:
Not only might the existence of a nuclear Iran fail to harm the U.S. national interest, but in fact it might help it. In a big, profound, far-reaching, remarkable, historic way.
Hmmm, this sounds similar to the argument I've heard in my circles, which says: arm everyone with nukes and that'll be a world of M-A-D stalemate. I'm afraid that all variants of this idea are bad, at least at the face of it. Still, a Middle East arms race is probably already in the works, no matter what our opinions are on Iran's WMDs. Maybe it's unavoidable. But I find it disconcerting to say the least. These are countries filled with terrorists and madmen. The region is unstable: The Sunnis hate the Shia. The Muslims hate the Jews. Jihad is a noble project of Islam that guarantees one dark-eyed virgins.
I look forward to the Sophistry that says Iran with nukes is a good thing. Maybe it will make me feel better about the inevitable nuclearization of the region (especially if Kerry is elected).
